People have been using cannabis for cancer treatment and prevention for some time now. Pioneers like Rick Simpson have increased its popularity for medicinal uses.
Cannabis is legal for medicinal use in 23 different states, in addition Washington and Colorado have legalized marijuana for medicinal and recreational uses.
Many people are searching for the best methods for treating their ailments. Some people are staying loyal to western medicine while others are fed up with western practices and are opting for holistic methods of treatment.
Some medical conditions are better treated by western medicine, others are more suited for treatment using eastern medicine, and in some cases both methods are best. As in the result of a recent study on brain cancer treatment, both natural medicine and western medicine working together was best.
St Georga’s University of London conducted a study treating brain cancer tumors using cannabinoids tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabidiol (CBD), along with irradiation therapy.
Treatment was subjected to three different measures; irradiation by itself, cannabinoid treatment by itself, and irradiation and canabinoid treatments together. The study indicated that using cannabinoid and irradiation together proved to show the best and most consistent results.
“Those treated with both irradiation and the cannabinoids saw the most beneficial results and a drastic reduction in size. In some cases, the tumours effectively disappeared in the animals. This augurs well for further research in humans in the future. At the moment this is a mostly fatal disease.”
Brain cancer claims about 5,200 lives per year and is a particularly difficult disease to treat. While this is encouraging, I don’t think this is the end all be all for cancer treatment.
I believe that adding other treatments to aid the battle such as Chinese medicine treatment with herbs and acupuncture would be beneficial, because it can maintain the strength of the patient that could potentially be weakened by irradiation treatment.
Different modalities working together need to further develop; studies such as these can help enhance techniques for cannabis and irradiation treatments individually and collectively.
